St. Mary's University, a private, Catholic Marianist University located in San Antonio, Texas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor and Director of Theatre Arts in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts beginning Fall 2025. The successful candidate's primary responsibilities include directing the main stage theatrical productions (fall play, spring musical); teaching courses including but not limited to Theatrical Rehearsal and Performance, Introduction to Acting, Voice and Diction, Theatre Roots, general fine arts, or core courses; actively recruiting students through outreach and recruitment events; and establishing a strong regional, and national reputation as an artist, director, and educator. The Department of Music and Theatre Arts is a dynamic interdisciplinary unit open to creativity and new ideas.
The faculty member will teach three courses each semester and direct the Theatre Arts program. Additional responsibilities include serving on departmental and university committees, as well as planning and leading outreach programs with area school districts and arts organizations. Additional duties may be assigned to accentuate the candidate's areas of expertise in consultation with the Department of Music and Theatre Arts Chair.

The ideal candidate will have an innovative vision and approach for a collegiate theatre program and a proven track record of successful artistic engagement with the broader community.
Required Qualifications:
- A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Theatre, Acting, Directing, Musical Theatre, or related discipline. ABD candidates with an expected completion date within one year of appointment will be considered.
- Demonstrated experience as an artist and director.
- Evidence of creative activity and achievement in collegiate and/or professional theatrical productions.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of interdisciplinary and/or entrepreneurial vision for programming.
- Experience in theatre production and/or arts management.
- Evidence of successful student recruitment.
- Teaching experience at a Hispanic Serving Institution or proven ability to work positively with faculty, staff, and students from non-traditional and/or diverse ethnic, cultural, and/or socioeconomic backgrounds. Initiatives that promote diversity, equity and inclusion can fulfill this preferred qualification.
