Our client is seeking a dynamic and motivated Assistant Finance Director to join their team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled accounting professional to make a meaningful impact by managing and enhancing municipal finance operations. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Assistant Finance Director plays a pivotal role in planning, organizing, and directing accounting, payroll, and accounts payable functions, while also contributing to the Town’s financial planning and budgeting processes.
As an integral part of the Finance Department, you will collaborate with auditors, financial advisors, and other stakeholders, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and municipal laws. Additionally, you will serve as the acting Finance Director in their absence, providing leadership and continuity to the department.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the implementation of accounting systems, procedures, and controls to ensure efficient operations.
- Oversee and verify work across accounting, payables, receivables, purchasing, and payroll functions within the Finance Department.
- Prepare comprehensive financial statements and reports adhering to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Collaborate on the preparation of the annual departmental and capital budgets, contributing forecasts and detailed analyses.
- Establish and maintain accurate accounting records for special projects, grants, and related fiscal matters.
- Compile and deliver statistical and narrative reports for federal, state, and local agencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
- Expertise in accounting principles and GASB financial reporting, with a focus on governmental and municipal finance.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing teams and fostering collaborative working relationships.
- Proficiency in computerized accounting systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with ADP Workforce Now and Munis Enterprise (highly preferred).
- Strong ability to analyze, interpret, and apply financial data to align with federal, state, and municipal regulations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders and the public.
