Founded in 1992, the Center for the Advanced Study of India at the University of Pennsylvania is the first research institution in the United States dedicated to the study of contemporary India. A national resource, it fills an urgent need for objective knowledge of India's politics and society, rapidly changing economy, and transformation as both an ancient civilization and major contemporary power. The Center's key goals are to nurture a new generation of scholars across disciplines and to provide a forum for dialogue among the academic, business, and foreign policy communities. Through its collaborative research initiatives, seminars, conferences, publications, and outreach, the Center provides in-depth, policy-relevant analysis of the most pressing issues facing India and the Indo-US relationship today.









DUTIES:  The Assistant Director, Research & Outreach supports CASI’s mission by managing key dimensions of the Center’s research, programming, and communications activities. The holder of this position will work alongside the Center’s Director and senior staff to manage the Center’s core research personnel,  coordinate and produce high-profile events on and off campus, and design and implement the Center’s media and communication strategy.  These tasks will require the position to develop collaborative relationships across campus, design plans for ensuring effective and well-attended events, and craft communications strategies for effective outreach to research, student, alumni, and donor communities.




 




QUALIFICATIONS:




Bachelor's Degree and 2 to 3 years of experience required ; M aster’s degree in S ocial S ciences , South Asia Studies , P olitic al Science , H istor y or A nthropology preferred.  Relevant experience in program administration , ideally within a university, nonprofit environment, or India-specific context are a plus.




 




Candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills with a track record of managing complex processes efficiently and accurately. Demonstrated experience managing research programs and executing academic events including lectures, conferences, and workshops. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively represent the organization and engage with diverse audiences. Experience implementing multi-platform communication strategies including tools for measuring engagement and reac h including Google Analytics. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously while adapting to changing demands. Experience working in an international or India-specific context are a plus.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
