SWIM USA is the premiere designer and manufacturer of women's swimwear located in New York City. We are currently seeking a dynamic Assistant Designer to join our team.
Job Summary:
The Assistant Designer for women's swim assists the Design team with the execution of seasonal collections, fabrications and colors that maintain the brand identity. Helps to facilitate in the development, concept, and design of the product line. Prepares presentation materials, concept boards, fabric and color boards and flat sketches using Adobe Creative Suite. Updates and manages tech pack development using Yunique PLM. Maintains effective collaborative relationships, taking pride in the company and brands, embracing diversity in all facets of the position, and representing a hunger for knowledge and responsibility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation of design specification sheets, sketches, pitch sheets and trim sheets. Manages inspiration and development sample organization.
- Contributes to conceptualization and implementation of the line; Prepares presentation boards highlighting fabric, flats, and figure sketches; Assists in set up of all presentations.
- Participates in line assortment building and line presentations with the goal of creating a cohesive and exciting collection
- Assists in research and development for trims and print and pattern, in identifying seasonal fashion direction, merchandise trends, client needs and competitive markets for the area of responsibility.
- Attends style fittings as needed
- Maintains product development logs, line sheets, boards and design archives library.
- Facilitates and administers interoffice communication and builds collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams
- Adheres to cross-functional calendar and attends meetings as required
- Interfaces professionally and works effectively in group settings
- Handles other responsibilities or projects, as assigned
- Follows up on outstanding development and production issues
Education: Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or equivalent years of experience.
Experience: 0-2 years experience with interest in swimwear or intimate apparel design.
Skills:
- Creativity and enthusiasm for fashion
- Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator and all Microsoft Office Applications
- Experience sketching in/using adobe illustrator is a must
- Ability to identify color and fashion trends
- Ability to anticipate workload and manage priorities
- Knowledge of design specifications, i.e. draping, pattern making, sewing and CAD software
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Strong teamwork skills
- Browzwear and YPLM experience preferred, but not required
Working Conditions: Hybrid; 3 days in office per week is required.
