Why M Physicians?
Under the direction of the Chief Legal Officer, provides strategic and operational leadership to key pillars of M Physicians adverse event Communication and Resolution program (CRP).This person will contribute to strategic planning and efforts to embed a principled approach to responding to adverse clinical events including supporting a multi-disciplinary Clinical Care Review Committee. Contributes to the risk management analysis of adverse events and determination of follow-up actions, including communication with physicians and patients and development of remediation plans. They will also assist with coordination of case reviews and supports the Risk Management Department in providing legal counsel and guidance on various healthcare related issues.
What you will do as an Assistant Counsel Risk Management:
- Assist with intake, management, and processing of adverse event reports, including communicating with patients and involved care providers, analyzing events to identify opportunities for improved patient safety, assessing defensibility of care and obtaining case reviews.
- Advise on cases to be presented at Clinical Care Review Committee and participate in meeting preparation and follow up.
- Participate in clinical risk education of MPhysicians employed physicians and staff, University of Minnesota residents, fellows and medical students including onboarding and clinical risk training of new MPhysicians staff. Education modules will include core CRP and clinical risk management principles which are rooted in error prevention, high reliability concepts, just culture principles, and transparent and pro-active resolution of adverse clinical events.
- Provide legal counsel and guidance including written legal opinions and memoranda to management and staff.
- Assist with management of litigation and subpoenas and respond to medical board complaints
- Research applicable laws, rules and regulations that impact daily operational processes within the organization.
What you will need:
- Juris Doctorate and licensed to practice law in Minnesota or Master’s Degree in health care administration, business administration, or related field
- Minimum seven to ten of professional experience in healthcare law, risk, safety and/ or quality management
- Strategic and project management experience in healthcare preferred
- Proven track record of working effectively with all levels of staff
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement significant initiatives within a complex, matrixed environment.
- Requires critical thinking skills, strong public speaking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Posses strong customer services and communication skills to work with patients, families, and healthcare providers while maintaining his professional standards.
- Ability to manage tasks in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. Be able to coordinate deadlines, prioritize work demands, and monitor assignments.
- Inspire trust and confidence while making practical recommendations to healthcare professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement significant initiatives within a complex, matrixed environment.
- Strategic focus regarding activities with proactive planning and prioritization skills.
- Strong influencing and presentation skills with ability to explain positions regarding significant issues in face of opposition.
Compensation:
