Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Cook
DIVISION: Early Childhood Services
SUPERVISOR: Health and Disabilities Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
PURPOSE:
Perform assigned kitchen duties within the Early Head Start and Preschool programs.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Assures all procedures are in compliance with the State Board of Health regulations, CACFP guidelines, Early Head Start and Preschool regulations.
- Cook and serve assigned meals per specified menu and time schedule to meet nutritional needs of children in order to help promote school readiness.
- Prepare meals for parent meetings and other events to help promote family engagement.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dishes after all meals and snacks.
- Purchase necessary food items for snack and meal preparation as needed.
- Wash, sterilize, and prepare all bottles for infants.
- Work with the Health Services manager to maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and food items.
- Attends required/requested CACFP, State Board of Health and other trainings as assigned.
- Complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Comply with regulatory health requirements, including: providing documentation of an annual physical within 30 days of hire and every five (5) years thereafter; and an annual TB test.
- Must be able to withstand frequent standing, walking, stooping and crouching.
- Must be able to lift, carry and move items weighing 5-20 pounds.
- Adheres to all plans, policies and procedures of Bona Vista and Early Head Start and Preschool.
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:
- Excellent and professional communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must possess critical thinking skills.
- Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Comply with ethical standards of DSI, FSSA, and other governing bodies.
- Must be able to withstand frequent standing, walking, stooping and crouching.
- Must be able to lift, carry and move items weighing 5-20 pounds.
- Adheres to all plans, policies and procedures of Bona Vista and Early Head Start and Preschool.
- Must be able to read, write and do basic calculations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School degree preferred.
- 2 years’ experience working within a food preparation environment.
- General knowledge of child development, nutrition, health and safety.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
- Maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license, insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD with medical liability coverage), and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier.
