Position: Assistant Controller

Due to our growth mode, the accounting function is in a transformation phase and this position you will have a sizeable stake in establishing accounting processes as our progress continues.
We are looking for an Assistant Controller to help oversee and lead accounting and financial planning of our organizations. This individual will be responsible for financial activities of all organizations including (but not limited to) accounting activities, financial modeling, financial planning and analysis, managing budgets, identifying investment opportunities, cash management and conducting risk analyses. The successful candidate will bring a minimum of five (5) years of robust experience in accounting as well as financial planning. The individual will also be responsible for overseeing a small team and provide coaching and development opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• Establishing and maintaining internal controls
• Cash management for funding of payroll and accounts payables
• Preparing and consolidating financial statements
• Managing General Ledger and month end close, providing monthly quarterly and year end analysis
• Perform and analyze variances and report significant budget differences to management.
• Coordinating and supporting the budget process and management budget templates
• Work with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
• Create risk analysis reports for both internal and external ventures.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Research accounting issues for compliance with GAAP
• Liaison for third party auditors and tax firm
• Oversee, develop, and manage team members including performance conversations, coaching and opportunities for further training and development.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration required. MBA would be an asset.
• Preferred experience in project accounting and construction.
• Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation a plus.
• 5 – 6 years' experience either overseeing all accounting aspects of an organization or acting in a lead capacity
• Experience in people management and leading and developing direct reports.
• An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work and thrive in a changing and fast paced environment.
• An innovative approach with experience creating solutions and processes to improve efficiencies and overall organizational goals.
• Exposure and an understanding of different industries including a variety of business models, ventures, and investment opportunities.
• An in-depth understanding of financial profit analysis and improvement.
• Private equity experience preferred.
• Strong MS skills in Excel, Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Power BI preferred.
