A leading manufacturing company specializing in steel products is looking for a highly motivated Assistant Controller to manage its financial operations and affiliates. The ideal candidate possesses excellent management and supervisory skills, along with a strong understanding of cost accounting. Reporting to the Group Controller, the new team member will contribute to enhancing operational efficiency by optimizing processes while ensuring clear communication and maintaining organizational effectiveness.

Location: Houston, TX
Type of Position: Direct Hire
Responsibilities:
- Produce monthly financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Responsible for leading month-end closure, including financial analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review and approve all journal entries.
- Recommend benchmarks (KPIs) that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
- Produce annual budget and monthly profitability forecasts; report significant budget differences to management.
- Work with external auditors and provide needed information for the annual audit (PBCs).
- Approve weekly check-run and outgoing wire transfers.
- Oversee AR collections and serve as escalation point for all collections issues.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Manage and mentors’ direct reports. Provide training as needed.
- Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Build team and individual capability, ensuring personal effectiveness for work in current and future roles.
- Manage multiple direct reports.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration required
- Five years or more of related experience required
- Excellent management and supervisory skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically MS Excel
- Experience with SAP preferred
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting (manufacturing) required
- Prior experience with intercompany billings and settlements is a plus
