Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, accounting, or a related field, preferably in an educational or non-profit setting.
Position Description:
The Assistant Business Services Manager plays a critical role in supporting the financial management of the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences. This position will assist the CFO in developing, recommending, and administering programs related to the receipt, custody, and disbursement of funds. The ideal candidate will be skilled in accounting practices, internal auditing, budgetary controls, payroll management, and debt services.

Terms of Employment: Salary & benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. The salary range for this position is $60,000-$70,000. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the CFO in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the CFO in developing and managing the District's financial strategies and objectives.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Oversee payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate compensation for all employees.
- Support the development and implementation of accounting procedures to enhance operational efficiency and financial accuracy.
- Collaborate with the CFO to maintain accurate financial records, including but not limited to deposit sheets, invoices, purchase orders, requisitions, local, state, and federal reports, and tax deposits. Prepare federal project quarterly reports, fiscal reports and expenditure reports.
- Assist in the establishment and execution of internal auditing processes to ensure compliance with financial policies and regulations. Support strategic planning, identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed. Internal auditing of district petty cash accounts.
- Support the budget preparation process, including gathering data, analyzing budget requests, and monitoring expenditures. Prepare various schedules and data gathering for budget development.
- Assist in the development of budgetary control procedures to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Work closely with other departments to provide financial insights and support.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding financial matters and program implementations.
- Materials handling – receiving goods and scheduling purchase orders for processing.
- Maintain inventory of district supplies and materials, including but not limited to teaching supplies, curriculum, maintenance and custodial supplies.
- Oversee reconciliation of all cash accounts monthly (cash management; special funds; ancillary accounts).
- Support local operations teams (food service, transportation, facilities, and housekeeping) with duties as assigned.
- Perform all other duties pertinent to the Business Office as directed by the CFO and CEO
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong knowledge of financial principles, practices, and regulations.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Experience with automated accounting systems preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
