A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ASSISTANT BRANCH MANAGER:
The Assistant Branch Manager is responsible for assisting with branch operations and branch compliance. The Assistant Branch Manager will ensure established policies and procedures are followed and will train, direct, and assist in supervising branch staff. They will act as the Branch Manager when necessary. This leadership position requires the ability to deal effectively with members and co-workers in person, by telephone, and in writing along with the ability to work in a fast paced environment and collaborate with other branches and departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Ensure that the branch operations are conducted in accordance with established policies, procedures, legal and regulatory requirements and are well coordinated with other departments.
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of credit union products and services. Cross-sell appropriate products and services to meet members' financial needs.
- Ensure branch security. Respond to alarms originating at the branch. Assist with opening and closing the building in accordance with set hours. Test security equipment as assigned.
- Ensure the branch balances all transactions at the close of each day.
- Assist with implementing changes to established policy and procedures within the branch.
- Perform duties related to loan processing, loan closings, certificates of deposit, IRAs, HSAs, new accounts, etc.
- Participate in branch development in coordination with business development staff, branch manager, and Credit Union management.
- Provide assistance, direction, and supervision as needed to branch staff.
- Assist the branch manager with 1:1 coaching, disciplining and development of branch staff.
- Assist with orientation of new employees and staff training sessions. Ensure personnel are well trained in all phases of their respective jobs. Perform cross training as necessary.
- Perform monetary transactions such as cash handling, check cashing, member inquiries, etc. as needed.
- Assist with determining appropriate staffing levels and scheduling employees.
- Ensure members' requests and questions are promptly and courteously resolved. Answer members' questions or refer appropriately.
- Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems. Provide suggestions for improved service.
- Complete required reports and related documents promptly and accurately.
Additional Duties as required or assigned
- Ensure work areas and equipment are clean and well maintained.
- Fill in for Branch personnel and other Branch Managers as needed. Assist with personnel functions as assigned.
- Ensure the Credit Union's professional reputation is maintained.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
- High school graduate or equivalent. Additional coursework preferred.
Required Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of credit union products, services, and policies.
- Understanding of teller and member service representative functions.
- Knowledge of loan officer duties.
Experience Required:
- Two to five years of related financial institution experience required.
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Well organized.
- Able to operate related computer applications and basic business equipment.
