POSITION SUMMARY:

The assistant coach provides administrative, instructional, and recruiting support services under the direction of the head coach and athletic director.

POSITION DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist in implementing the sport training and instructional program under the direction of the head coach by:

1. Providing sport-specific skill instruction
2. Conducting practice sessions and game-related duties
3. Motivating players to maximize their efforts

• Develop and execute training programs for infielders and pitchers, focusing on:

1. Defensive skills, footwork, and game awareness for infielders
2. Mechanics, control, and overall performance for pitchers
3. Pre-game, in-game strategies, and individual development sessions

• Utilize video analysis and other tools to identify areas for improvement in player performance
• Assist with planning and organizing practices, particularly for infielders and pitchers, ensuring a comprehensive approach to player development
• Actively participate in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes under the direction of the head coach
• Collaborate with academic support personnel to ensure student-athletes' academic success
• Partner with athletic training and strength and conditioning staff to support player health, conditioning, and rehabilitation
• Demonstrate a sincere interest in the personal, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes
• Exhibit supportive, cooperative, and professional behavior to achieve program goals and foster team culture
• Efficiently and effectively complete assignments and demonstrate openness to feedback from the head coach
• Adhere to departmental and institutional policies, as well as NCAA Division III rules and regulations
• Contribute to a positive working environment by maintaining respectful relationships with staff, student-athletes, and external stakeholders
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director

Requirements:

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated baseball coaching experience, with a focus on pitching
• Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules
• Strong interpersonal, teaching, and communication skills
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

• Intercollegiate-level baseball experience
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in physical education or a related field
• Coaching certification from a recognized national agency
• Experience or demonstrated potential in recruiting student-athletes
• Proven ability to work effectively with college-age student-athletes and perform administrative program responsibilities
• Current First Aid, AED, and CPR certification

Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: This position is a college year (10 months) part-time UUP position. The anticipated salary for the position is $4,000.00 subject to proration for the Academic Year 2024-2025. For this position, the starting date will be january 1, 2025 through May 31, 2025. Special Notes: FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.

• Weekly Schedule: varies by week, 4 practice days for 2-3 hours, 1 competition day for 3-4 hours

Postseason

• Weekly Average: 5-7 hours
• Total (Assuming 1.5 Weeks): 7.5-10.5 hours

Off-Season

• Weekly Average: 2-4 hours
• Total of 22 weeks
