About the Job
This team member will be a part of the architecture and design team for the Chicago, IL design studio. In this role, the team member will be primarily responsible for day to day client interactions as well for the development of construction documents, initially for an international retail brand, but may expand to include other retailers. Other responsibilities include collaborating with senior staff on scheduling, staffing, and management of project timelines and permitting. Persistence for solving problems, great communication skills, and the ability to prioritize and pivot quickly from task to task are essential for success. The position offers candidates the opportunity to gain the NCARB AXP experience required to pursue architectural licensure.
This position is a hybrid position. Candidates must live within reasonable commuting distance of the central Chicago Loop area.
GENERAL SKILLS
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and experience with rendering programs such as Enscape
- Well organized and able to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to manage several projects at once at different stages of development
- Ability to solve problems quickly, take and act on feedback, and collaborate effectively with team members, consultants, and clients
- Ability to empathize and see design problems from other people's point of view
- Able to work independently and proactively
- Strong ability to communicate with team members and supervisors
- ยท Ability to document architectural building systems including, but not limited to, exterior wall systems, roofing systems, and storefront systems
- Manage a team of architects and interior designers during all phases of projects
- Manage client and consultant communication
- Independently produce construction drawings for small retail projects
- Coordinate workloads with internal and external design teams
- Coordinate with MEP, Structural, and Civil Engineering consultants
- Oversee and coordinate project team members on delegated tasks as required
- Perform site surveys, code research, zoning research and due diligence reports
- Able to solve problems while balancing details with the bigger picture
- Understanding and knowledge of building codes and zoning regulations
- Understanding and knowledge of building systems and site requirements

- Perform all other related work, as assigned or as apparent
EXPECTATIONS
- Some travel required
- Licensure or Progress towards Architectural licensure preferred
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE PREREQUISITES
- Bachelor's in Architecture / Design required, Professional Degree (Bachelor's or Master's) preferred
- 6+ years of experience in commercial architecture
- Commercial construction document production experience preferred
- Revit experience required
