Apprentice and Training Program
Job Description
Operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment such as cranes, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, forklifts, concrete pumps etc. Operating Engineers represents operators, mechanics, oilers, fuel trucks drivers, lowboy drivers, riggers, signal persons and a variety of other skilled trades.
Salary Range
Apprentice wages very from 50% to 85% of journeymen wages. After a three-month probation apprentices may qualify for benefits such as family health insurance, pension plan, life insurance, dental and eye care.
Requirements
Copy of Birth certificate.
D.O.T. physical examination and drug test results.
Copy of high school diploma or GED certificate.
Two reference letters.
Copy of DD-214 service record (if applicable)
A valid Florida class A commercial drivers license.
Completed aptitude test (given by the State of Florida Employment service).
Training Description
This is a three year nationally recognized training program. It is registered with the Florida Dept. of Education and Broward County School Board. The program includes four years (8000 hrs.) on the job training, (300 hrs.) of classroom training, and (300 hrs.) hands on training. The program is non-discriminatory regarding both race and gender. Note: there are no fees charged for this program.

If you have an interest in operating or maintaining heavy equipment, have a responsible attitude and a good work ethic and don't mind working outside in hot dusty or even greasy conditions, then becoming an Operating Engineers is the trade for you. Skilled operators earn very good wages and benefits.
