Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision: Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems, services, and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing fixtures and systems in district facilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid Plumbing Apprentice license from the State of Texas or able to obtain one 90 days of hire.
Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record High school diploma or GED
May be required to successfully complete job ability testing
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to learn local plumbing codes
Ability to learn State and Local Plumbing codes and ADA regulations
Ability to learn plumbing systems and how they work
Ability to learn to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to learn how to braze and solder
Ability to use hand and power tools, back hoe, trench digging machines, and pipe threading machines
Ability to read and write legibly
Knowledge of computers and I-Pads
Ability to receive and complete electronic work orders on a mobile device
Experience:
Prefer 1–3 years of experience in commercial plumbing and/or general maintenance, including plumbing and maintenance repairs, and new construction but not required.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
- Coordinate repairs and installations with other crafts and building staff in order to minimize interruptions in service.
- Become familiar with utility cut-off valves for plumbing and gas disconnects.
- Repair or replace sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems.
- Operate sewer cleaning machines (cable type) and sewer jet machines.
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
- Work in tight and confined spaces.
- Work in a variety of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Ability to work various shifts, which may include: weekends, evenings, and over 8 hours per day on short notice.

- Other duties as assigned
Safety
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Must adhere to all guidelines set forth on SDS (Safety Data Sheets) when handling chemicals.
- Must wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when performing any task which could cause injury or illness.
- Take necessary action immediately and report any condition which could cause injury or illness.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing, etc.
- Must wear district issued uniform while at work, and return all uniforms prior to your last day of employment with Lockhart ISD or the cost for uniforms will be deducted from final pay check.

Tools/Equipment Used: Plumbing tools and equipment including pipe bender, propane torch; hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including forklift, trencher, backhoe; light truck or van
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around gas lines; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
