About the Job
The Montefiore Health System (MHS) Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a full-time Anesthesia Site Director at Hutchinson Campus Ambulatory Surgery Center (Hutch ASC) to join our world-class team of physicians and lead the daily anesthesia services at the center. The Anesthesia Site Director will report to the Chair of the MHS Department of Anesthesiology.
Background

The Anesthesia Site Director will be based at the Hutch ASC located in the Bronx. The Hutch ASC is a stand-alone multispecialty surgery center with sixteen operating rooms focused on outstanding patient care and education in an efficient manner. Our team of anesthesiologists perform a range of services including general anesthesia, neuraxial techniques, regional anesthesia, sedation, monitor anesthesia care treating approximately 1,200 patients each month. In addition, the Hutch ASC team as oversees the resident and nurse practitioner working in the Pre-Anesthesia Assessment clinic (PAT clinic).
Responsibilities
Site Management
The Site Director will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the surgery center and the pre-anesthesia assessment clinic in addition to educational, research, and administrative activities. He or she will assign daily duties and responsibilities to anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Residents, Rotators, and Medical and Dental Students, and assist them in effectively carrying out those duties and responsibilities when acting as Floor Runner.
The Site Director will build and maintain positive working relationships between the surgical, nursing, anesthesiology, and administrative staff members. He or she will serve as a collaborative member of the Department of Anesthesiology’s Leadership Team and will serve as a resource to the anesthesiology attendings, CRNAs, technicians, and administrators on various issues. The Site Director will develop a knowledge base regarding the operating budget and capital equipment needs of Hutch ASC. He or she will interview new potential staff members including CRNAs and administrators and will assign their work schedule and hours.
Perioperative Services
The Site Director will coordinate with perioperative services and surgical staff to ascertain that the daily operating room schedule runs efficiently and will assure the Pre-Anesthesia Assessment of patients is completed in a timely manner. He or she will ensure effective management of the PAT clinic and will oversee and manage the perioperative processes including any peri-operative complications in the post-anesthesia care unit. The Site Director will ensure appropriate treatment for complications, pain management, and disposition of patients from the unit. He or she will consult on medical issues in the perioperative arena by evaluating patients and making the final decision to cancel the procedure or to refer the patient for further consultation.
Quality Improvement
The Site Director will work on continual improvement of the Quality of Care rendered by anesthesiologists and other clinical staff (i.e., techs and CRNAs). He or she will implement Departmental policies and procedures as directed by the Chair and ensure all Anesthesiology staff comply with the Department’s Quality Improvement and Patient Safety program. The Anesthesia Site Director will serve as the primary contact for the surgical, nursing, and administrative staff regarding issues related to quality of care and unsafe practices and will report to the Chair, as appropriate.
The Site Director will ensure all professional activities of Hutch ASC are following the policies and procedures as set forth by the Department of Anesthesiology, Montefiore Medical Center, and the respective site’s policies, procedures, and “peculiarities.” The Site Director will monitor clinical performance of faculty, CRNAS, and trainees to assure compliance with Departmental standards, policies, and procedures as well as with the Joint Commission, Department of Health, and OSHA.
Graduate Medical Education
The Site Director will ensure an appropriate balance is maintained for resident training between education and service. He or she will serve as a resource to residents and fellows and will liaise with the Vice Chair of Education to make sure academic standards are being upheld by attendings and trainees. The Site Director will occasionally teach didactic sessions including Grand Rounds and Residency Program lectures.
Qualifications
Applicants must be Board-Certified in Anesthesiology and licensed in the State of New York. Previous successful leadership experience is helpful. Desired behavior competencies include taking on accountability for the site, excellent communication skills, effectiveness in working as a team, self-reflection, and a desire to continue to learn. The Site Director must have reputable ethical standards, strong interpersonal skills, and be a member in good standing of their current medical staff.
