How you will contribute:
You will be part of the growing Engineering Team, playing a critical role in the improvement and design of our cultivation infrastructure, including greenhouses, mechanical systems such as harvesters, and utility infrastructure. Your skills in Civil & Mechanical Engineering are put to work in engineering metal structures, civil work (including dirt work, plumbing, and electrical), and the mechanization of light agricultural equipment. This role requires a blend of civil and mechanical engineering expertise to design, develop, and maintain agricultural infrastructure and equipment.
What you will be working on:
Engineering existing and new developments:
- Design metal greenhouse structures for agricultural use, ensuring durability and compliance with safety standards.
- Develop mechanical systems for agricultural equipment, such as augers, winches, pumps, and dosing systems.
- Prepare project documentation, including blueprints, budgeting, technical and quality specifications, and construction guidelines.
- Plan construction work including civil, plumbing, and electrical with construction teams.
- Prepare and support civil construction johns and installation of metal greenhouse structures.
- Coordinate with suppliers and contractors and to source materials and prepare construction contracting.
- Work closely with the engineering, construction and facility operations teams to optimize current infrastructure and scale up new developments.
- Spend time at the commercial facility working on infrastructure improvements & new engineering developments to successful tech transfers.
- Develop and communicate infrastructure designs using drawings, prototypes, process narratives, and construction guidelines.
- Create and execute capital projects to implement infrastructure improvements utilizing data developed in collaboration with other teams.
- Monitor project progression, resolve any issues that arise, and coordinate team activities to maintain the approved schedule.
- Update management team and other project engineers on project progress and requirements regularly in written reports and presentations.
- Control project pace and budget and manage project changes as needed.
What you bring to Plantible:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in mechanical or civil engineering, ideally with a focus on structural engineering and agricultural mechanization.
- Experience in designing and mechanizing agricultural equipment is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for design and modeling.
- Applied knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, and electrical systems.
- Experience with structural calculations, material selection, and understanding of wind load and forces on and in structures.
- Experience with underground work and dirt work.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, including 110V, 220V, and 480V systems, single-phase and three-phase.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
In prior roles you gained experiences such as:
- Familiarity with sustainable agricultural practices and technologies.
- Experience with automation in agricultural environments (PLCs & VFDs).
- Relevant certifications in project management and safety standards are advantageous.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (opportunity to obtain this if not obtained yet).
