Description:The department administrator will support the Basic Science departments of Biochemistry, Microbiology/Immunology, Pharmacology and Chemical Biology and the Emory Vaccine Center within the School of Medicine.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
- As Administrator for Basic Sciences in the SOM, plans, coordinates and is accountable for the major activities of a basic science department including grants and contracts, development and administration of budget, financial analysis, data processing operations, and human resources management.
- Serves as an autonomous leader with departmental decision-making authority, including overall budget development and leadership presentation and responsibility, including grant funding.
- Works with the Department Chair and other departmental leadership to develop, administer and monitor the capital equipment, operations, personnel budgets and to establish short- and long-term objectives for the department(s) as well as monitors progress towards their achievement.
- Negotiates new and renewal grants/contracts.
- Interviews faculty applicants and recommends candidates for select positions. Ensures effective and efficient office procedures.
- Handles departmental human resources issues and is accountable for the hiring, disciplinary, termination, and salary decisions which are made for the department.
- Prepares various operational and statistical reports.
- Ensures required record-keeping is maintained.
- Supervises staff, effectively manages employee performance and implements formal training and development programs for staff.
- Acts as a liaison between management and other schools and departments concerning research and administrative issues.
- Partners with Research Administration and SOM leadership on effective grants administration and management.
- Works cohesively with academic and other partners on joint administrative, education, research and faculty related issues.
- Manages HR activities related to all students engaged in department including programs with other academic partners.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree, preferably in business, finance, or related science field, and seven years of professional business or management experience which includes experience in a clinical or healthcare environment, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Previous supervisory experience.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department.This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
