What you’ll be doing.
Job Summary:
The Actuarial Analyst II is an intermediate level position for an experienced candidate that leads, for the successful candidate, ultimately to a role of significant importance to the success of Generali’s travel insurance line of business. A comprehensive exam program including financial support and study time is provided for highly motivated candidates who can progress through the examinations of the Casualty Actuarial Society, ultimately leading to Associateship or Fellowship in the CAS. Developed programming skills are critical to success in this role. This position provides support to more senior and managing actuaries in the areas of data acquisition, presentation, reconciliation, actuarial rate indications, loss reserve analysis, and/or financial or generalized linear modeling. The Actuarial Analyst II will perform routine actuarial analyses under minimal supervision and more advanced analysis under close supervision.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect data, perform analyses, and present results for pricing indications, loss reserve reviews and/or financial modeling. Participate in actuarial analysis and recommendations to improve profitability, reserve accuracy, or modeled results including assisting in the development of appropriate methodologies and monitoring systems.
- Become intimately familiar with company data systems and department processes to allow for conversion, enhancements, automation, and formal documentation of improvements.
- Participate in special projects related to statistical modeling, development of new or revised systems and attendant reporting mechanisms, and problem solving, or investigation related to data acquisition/refinement and availability. Respond to requests for special assistance, financial information, or actuarial support to other company departments or to senior management.
- Collect and present statistical information on company experience and financial results.
- Participation in peer review as ability and experience allows.
- Participate in continuous learning activities, including building relationships across the company with colleagues in accounting, claims, finance, marketing, as well as within the actuarial department.
- Progress toward actuarial accreditation through successful completion of actuarial exams.
- Performs routine actuarial analysis under minimal to moderate supervision.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of actuarial experience.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience using Excel.
- Experience extracting and manipulating data, preferably using SQL, Python, R, VBA, or a similar programming language.
- Developing advanced skills in data acquisition, manipulation, and analysis using programming languages.
- Ability and willingness to continue participation in the actuarial exam program.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, email, and the internet.
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work as part of a team and build internal/external working relationships to resolve mutual problems by collaborating on procedures or transactions.
- Focuses on providing standard professional advice and creating initial reports/analyzes for review by experienced team professionals.
- Develops professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.
- Determines a course of action based on guidelines and modifies processes and methods as required.
- Ability to work on problems of moderate scope, which are varied and routine where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
- Exercises judgement within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Applies learned techniques and contributes to analysis and investigation to solve problems.
- Receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.
Education/Certifications:
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, or economics; or computer science with a strong secondary concentration or minor in one of above.
Preferred:
- Completion of at least 3 actuarial exams preferred.
Pay Range: 95-110k
Where you’ll be doing it.
This is a hybrid role based out of our San Diego office. As a hybrid role, you will be working onsite 2-3 days a week and working from home 2-3 days a week.
When you’ll be doing it.
While there is some flexibility in the hours, this position will be Monday-Friday during regular business hours (approximately 8:00am-5:00pm). Occasional overtime may be required according to business need.
