Position SummaryThe Accounts Payable Specialist is responsible for performing the day-to-day processing of accounts payable transactions. This includes maintaining the related general ledger accounts and vendor files.
Essential Job Functions- Direct the processing of invoices and payments
- Identify opportunities to automate, improve, and simplify workflows
- Standardize procedures to improve efficiency
- Audit vendor invoices, identify discrepancies, and work with vendors to solve discrepancies
- Lead continuous improvement activities
- Serve as a subject matter expert on all supporting systems
- Analyze freight accounts for variances and research impacts
- Review any inaccuracies and provide proposals to handle issues
- Help to build out new reports and metrics
- Ability to manipulate large data sets
- Process inquiries from both vendors and internal customers regarding payment inquiries. This includes researching and submitting items for payment/processing
- Pull data, provide additional coding/information, and prepare for upload into ERP systems
- Monitor mailboxes and coordinate the processing of freight invoices in different divisions
- Willingness to be a team player and complete activities outside of the normal course of accountant's position
- Responsible for weekly/monthly vendor reconciliations
- Running weekly AP reports such as run, aged, mismatch and ensuring they are timely processed
- Special projects and ad hoc reporting as assigned
- Back up for other team members for their vacation

Qualifications- College or University Degree preferably in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Accounting and Finance
- Excellent communication skills
- Analytical, resourceful, and have top-notch problem-solving abilities
- Willingness to work in several systems and pull many supporting files
- Strong Excel skills
- High attention to detail with an ability to create and document effective and efficient process flows
- Ability to handle difficult situations with confidence and attain agreement
