Hopewell Federal Credit Union has a great opportunity for an Accounting Specialist in our Heath office - come join our team!This full-time position involves accounts payable duties, maintaining vendor files, account reconciliation and tracking and monitoring expenses and accounts, as well as assisting members with account information over the phone.The ideal candidate will have accounts payable or general accounting experience, possess excellent interpersonal, telephone and written skills and have a knowledge and competency in Microsoft Office.Position Role: To assist the CFO in the daily operations of the Accounting Department; reconciles and balances various ledger accounts and serves as a backup for all Accounting positions.Essential Duties: Completes month-end processes. Assists staff to complete daily tasks necessary for the Credit Union's operations. Serve as the primary back up for the accounting positions when necessary. Understands all of the roles within the department and is able to perform basic duties. Responsible for providing assistance to auditors/examiners on year-end and comprehensive audits as needed. Acts as a resource to branch personnel regarding member discrepancies / issues Performs advanced accounting tasks as assigned Stays current with changes and industry trends as it pertain to job functions and duties Adheres to all rules and regulations set forth by management, vendors and supervisory agencies Performs other duties as assignedKnowledge and Skills: Experience: One year accounting or related experience.Preferable: one year experience in ACH, Payables, Share Drafts, and Debit Cards.Education: Minimal: two-year college degree, preferred or 5 years credit union accounting and Symitar experience required in leiu of degree.Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, along with the ability to keep information to a need-to-know basis. Individual needs to be a self-starter, demonstrate initiative, team oriented, displays a positive attitude, strong customer service attitude, good interpersonal skills, strong researcher and problem-solver.Other Skills & Abilities: Strong PC skills, experienced MS Office user (most importantly MS Word and Excel), Functional with spreadsheets and word processing software. Strong understanding of fundamentals of accounting and accounting procedures. Must be able to work up to 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday with one Saturday per month. Must have excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to establish and maintain a positive, professional image to credit union members and coworkers.
