Overview
The Accounting Manager is to coordinate, identify, recommend, and perform the activities for the general accounting operations including, general ledger, financial reporting, tax reporting, fixed assets, social accountability reporting, and audits as established by UofL Health, Inc. Assists in the organization and communication needs of the facility as it pertains to financial matters and managing multiple priorities.
The position may supervise staff of senior accountants and/or staff accountants.
Develops, evaluates, and assures departmental goals and objectives are achieved.
Responsibilities
- Assist accounting department leadership in carrying out the duties of the department by ensuring that departmental procedures are properly documented and updated timely, resolving problems, identifying trends, determining system improvements, and implementing changes.
- Develop and establish a strong working relationship between accounting staff and other departments within the System. The manager provides accounting leadership in directing the System’s general accounting function, overseeing Accounting staff, handling any disciplinary issues and performing evaluations, while managing an accounting team.
- Manages and performs certain aspects of the month-end close. Review monthly journal entries, account analysis and workpapers
- Support the annual budgeting process for certain departments.
- Ensures compliance thru utilization of GAAP principles and accounting rules and regulations.
- Maintain financial security by monitoring and updating internal controls as necessary. Interface with external and internal auditors to provide financial information and resolve financial questions. Prepare certain year end audit work papers and financial statements.
- Assist the IT department with upgrades or revisions to accounting software when applicable. Includes testing, writing new procedures and training of accounting personnel.
- Prepare necessary documents and schedules to assist external auditors in filing year-end tax returns.
- Assist in meeting financial objectives and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures. Protect organization’s values by keeping information confidential.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Performs other duties as assigned, special projects and provide assistance as needed.
Qualifications
Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
- Bachelors degree in Accounting required. MBA or CPA preferred.
Experience (required and preferred):
- Five to seven years of financial management experience in a healthcare setting is required.
