Position Overview:
The Accounting Manager will work alongside the Leadership team to help oversee the full accounting process. They will have a few direct reports and the Accounting Manager will have the opportunity to become a leader through long-term growth.
Responsibilities of the Accounting Manager:
- Managing Financial Records: The Accounting Manager is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for the construction company, including processing invoices, managing payroll, recording expenses, and tracking income.
- Budgeting and Cost Analysis: They will prepare, monitor, and adjust the company’s budget and the costs of ongoing projects. This includes comparing actual costs with estimates and identifying any discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting: Regular creation and submission of financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, is another vital task. These reports are used to determine the financial position of the company and guide decision-making.
- Compliance and Regulation Management: The Accounting Manager ensures compliance with local and federal tax regulations and other financial laws, which might encompass filing tax returns and preparing for audits.
- Interdepartmental Communication: They serve as the key liaison between the finance department and other operational teams. They need to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial colleagues and provide information that helps in strategic planning.
- Reviewing and validating subcontractor billing for accuracy and adherence to contract terms as the Accounting Manager.
- Ensuring contract status for new subcontractor billings.
- Maintaining and reviewing accurate Project Cost Report as Accounting Manager.
- Investigating unbilled project costs and seeking reduction of retainage promptly for all projects.
- Preserving financial project records.
- The Accounting Manager will be assisting in the financial aspects of project closures.
- Processing final releases when available as Accounting Manager.
- Submitting payment applications to owners promptly.
- Providing owners with current status reports relating to any changes.
- Performing other duties as required.
- Assisting with some HR-related duties.
Qualifications for the Accounting Manager:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction accounting.
- Proficiency in Computer Applications: Sage/Master Builder, Textura, Excel, Procore.
- Exceptional analytical skills.
- Capable of operating with minimal direction and supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaborative team player.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA is preferred.
