JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Manager will manage all accounting functions for the parent company of a restaurant chain in southern California and has other operating entities requiring support. This role works together with the Accounts Payable Specialist, the Payroll Manager, and the operating management team to support the restaurant operations and company accounting needs. This person will also assist the external CPA firm during year-end audits.
- Create monthly financial reports including standard financial statements and tailored system reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and detailed metrics. Distribute to management and ownership as appropriate.
- Generate, maintain, and post the daily cash sheets for all 10 restaurants. Manage accounting entries for key accounts: fixed assets ledger and depreciation schedules, CIP and related capitalization entries, deferred expenses and liabilities, prepaids, accrued payroll, and percentage of rent. Report sales to various landlords for validation of percentage rent.
- Generate payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements, mainly for percentage rents, reimbursements, and other entity expenses. Pay sales taxes monthly for all locations.
- Participate with the CFO in preparation for Board of Director's and Shareholder's Meetings (quarterly, annually).
- Create asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information and make correct journal entries. Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents. Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards (i.e. GAAP, FASB), rules, regulations, and systems of internal control. Aid in the implementation of required new accounting policies, standards, and guidelines, as appropriate. Recommend appropriate changes to charts of accounts and entity structures to assist in implementing changes.
- Provide accurate, timely, and relevant recording, reporting, and analysis of financial information. Interface with restaurant managers to ensure timely submission of reports and highlight any issues to management.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement improvements to processes.
- Act as the primary point-of-contact for external CPA audit-related requests.
- Serve as backup payroll processor to the Payroll Manager will require familiarity with both Toast (POS) and iSolved (HRIS/Payroll) systems.
- Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have extensive experience with and expertise in Great Plains financial system.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- 7-10 years of accounting/finance experience.
- Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization.
- Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation.
- Familiarity with iSolved (HRIS) and Toast (POS) systems.
- Highly detail-oriented.
