SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager is responsible for the integrity of day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, and the effective use of financial resources of the Museum.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver timely reports and analyses on financial position, cash flow, revenues, admissions, and other financial information as may be requested by the CEO, CFO, or VP of Finance;
- Supervises all Finance staff; assigns duties, develops departmental work plans, and assesses performance;
- Reviews monthly general ledger reports to ensure accuracy and timeliness of data reporting;
- Assists VP of Finance in preparing Museum budgets on an annual basis;
- Together with VP of Finance, meets with external auditors and provides all requested information needed to conduct annual audit;
- Assists VP of Finance in preparing Museum tax returns;
- Ensures all journal entries are recorded on a timely basis to facilitate completion of monthly financial statements;
- Oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and proper recording of revenue and expenditures;
- Responsible for grant financial management, including but not limited to ensuring timely processing of grant receivables, working with grant directors to track, analyze, and project grant expenditures, and preparing required grant reports for review by the VP of Finance;
- Provides financial information on a monthly and ad hoc basis to all department heads in developing their annual budget proposals and in tracking utilization;
- Review and post daily accounting entries as required;
- Ensures all payroll allocations are correct and updated on a timely basis;
- Maintain and reconcile pledges receivable schedule;
- Monitor cash and prepare weekly cash flow performance;
- Assists with month-end close process and prepare account reconciliations as required;
- Adhere to the established policies and procedures of the Museum.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of FASB regulations and their application to non-profit institutions.
- Knowledge of regulations on corporations, non-profit institutions, federal grant recipients, and County departments.
- Ability to develop financial plans and budgets and maintain fiscal responsibility.
- Ability to organize resources and establish priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel
- Experience with Abila MIP Fund Accounting preferred.
- Ability to compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to detect errors and monitor own work to ensure quality.
- Ability to reconcile and/or balance financial transactions and accounts.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner by gathering and analyzing information.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting required and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 - 7 years working in the accounting field
- Nonprofit accounting experience preferred
