JOB SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, performs clerical duties which require exercise of independent judgment, thorough knowledge of accounting or bookkeeping procedures and familiarity with work relationships within the assigned area of accounting activity. Typical duties would include reviewing transactions for completeness, accuracy and proper authorization, posting and balancing accounts, assisting accountants in the preparation of reports, answering customer inquiries and investigating complaints regarding possible errors in the assigned area of activity, etc. Duties may include assigning work to and checking work of lower-level accounting clerks. May enter data into computer program and print reports to perform this function.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE: Assist in preparing invoices for liquidation and progress billing. Interface with customer representatives in paying offices. Perform routine inquiries as to invoice status (either electronically or telephonically). Prepare and make bank deposits. Match and log payments received on accounts receivables.
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE: Check items on invoices, purchase orders and receivers. Enter data into computer system and print computer generated reports. Based on system reports, perform material accrual and all accruals related to accounts payable. Maintain petty cash, and bank deposits. Process vendor invoices with discounts. Process employee expense reports and employee receivables. Prepare cash disbursement requirement reports. Print checks.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Sedentary Work:
Position involves sitting most of the time. Standing and walking are occasionally required. Position requires ability to exert minimal force of up to 10 pounds occasionally and minimal force to carry, lift, push, pull and otherwise move objects.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to communicate in English.
Ability to communicate with internal employees and external vendors effectively.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to calculate foreign currencies to US Dollars.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to prioritize workload. Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner. Ability to pay close attention to detail and produce high level of accuracy. Ability to exercise discretion.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Personal Computer literate. Spreadsheets & word processing (Word, Excel).
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED ON THE JOB
PC, telephone, fax, copier, calculator, and other standard office equipment to perform administrative duties.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 5 years related experience and/or training.
Must have Manufacturing Accounting experience.
Government accounting experience a plus.
Accounting courses desired. Require experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and general understanding of basic bookkeeping procedures.
