SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the AML Advisory Officer will be to operationally support the Consumer, Small Business, Corporate Banking and Commercial Lending lines of business ("LOBs") on BSA/AML Compliance matters as a Subject Matter Expert ("SME"). The AML Advisory Officer will report to the Business Advisory Manager. This is a 1st Line of Defense role, and will work closely with -- but not report to -- the BSA Department. The AML Advisory Officer will partner closely with LOBs to carry out certain 1st Line BSA/AML risk management responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.
* Liaise with the business and BSA teams to ensure compliance with BankUnited's BSA/AML/OFAC Program.
* Operationally support certain aspects of on-boarding/maintenance of LOB clients.
* Partner with LOB relationship managers on timely and thorough execution of Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and Know Your Customer (KYC) responsibilities.
* Engage in ongoing EDD reviews of high-risk clients, and/or provide the LOBs with guidance & support related to BSA inquiries and BSA exception memo development.
* Maintain comprehensive documentation evidencing the oversight functions performed and where deficiencies or areas for improvement are identified, working with stakeholders to drive effective and timely solutions.
* Act as an escalation point for certain BSA/AML compliance matters.
* Help develop and continuously improve team performance metrics.
* Establish and build strong relationships at 1st and 2nd line levels.
* Demonstrate aptitude for working, directly and indirectly, with clients that are both US and non-US (Latin America) based.
* Work with minimal supervision and as a member of a small team.
* Learn quickly with an ability to not just follow instructions, but to think critically and take ownership/responsibility.
* Demonstrate excellent utilization of relationship-building and soft skills to get results.
* Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
* Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
* Identifies and reports suspicious activity.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree preferred
EXPERIENCE
* 4-6 Years 3-5 years of AML-related operational experience in retail and commercial banking (preferably in the Florida and/or Greater New York City markets) is required A thorough understanding of financial crimes risk management principles and the Three Lines of Defense model is required Must have prior experience successfully supporting business units with the execution of aforementioned responsibilities Must demonstrate excellent computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft products, and the willingness to gain proficiency using other software as needed ACAMS (Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists) or similar credential(s) in the area of financial crimes compliance preferred required
