SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Chief or Assistant Chief Engineer, performs activities concerned with design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and machinery in medical center facility. Under general direction of the Chief or Assistant Chief Engineer, provides functional assistance to journeyperson stationary engineers under established indentured apprenticeship program.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:NOTE:The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification, however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
Assists and/or executes assigned maintenance functions and activities under direct tutelage, performing functional activities and minor repairs, including clean up of engineering shop and spaces.
Assists Stationary Engineers assigned to general and emergency maintenance on building equipment including steam boilers, pumps, motors, electrical circuits and refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and plumbing systems.
Successfully learns to perform minor electrical and mechanical maintenance and repairs, such as leaky faucets, flush valves, toilets, and landscape sprinklers.
Attends classroom instruction and studies satisfactorily as required by the joint apprenticeship program.
Successfully learns and understands use of facility drawings and blueprints.
Familiarizes and becomes aware of all locations of utility service mains, shutoff/isolation valves and disconnects.
Develops a working knowledge of operation and maintenance of all physical plant equipment and systems.
Performs electrical, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC duties under the direction of the Chief or Assistant Chief Engineer or a Stationary Engineer designated by the Chief.
Successfully learns to repair damaged walls and ceilings including minor sheetrock work, patching, painting, cutting ceiling tiles, etc. Learns to perform duties of all trade classifications including, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC under the direction of the Chief or Assistant Chief Engineer.
Other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
Required Licensure: Valid California Drivers License
Successfully passed the Engineer Apprenticeship Examination within the last two years and achieved a score of 72 or higher.
