Volt is hiring for a busy Manufacturer local to North Hollywood, CA!
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Level One Tooling Machinist to join our team. In this role, you will work under direct supervision to interpret basic work instructions and safely operate grinders, lathes, and mills to produce tooling components such as forming tools and dies. You will also perform in-process inspection duties using micrometers and calipers.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Pay: $21-30/HOUR

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Level One Tooling Machinist to join our team. In this role, you will work under direct supervision to interpret basic work instructions and safely operate grinders, lathes, and mills to produce tooling components such as forming tools and dies. You will also perform in-process inspection duties using micrometers and calipers.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine materials required and machines to be used.
- Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
- Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
- Verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Lift machined parts and position and secure parts on surface plates or worktables.
- Smooth flat and contoured surfaces using power grinders and fit and assemble parts.
- Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
- Heat treat tools or parts.
- Connect wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components.
- Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications.
- Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch designs.
- Work under direct supervision to ensure product accuracy.
- Proficiency in basic shop math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- 1-2 years of direct experience in the industry or a related field.
