The Role

This is a summer internship opportunity in Cambridge, MA from June 2, 2025 August 15, 2025. Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the internship. Start date will be June 2, 2025.

The Clinical Development organization at Moderna is looking for top talent in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related field to develop simulation package for sample size determination in complex vaccine trial design.The developed simulation package will be applied in infectious disease studies.

Heres What Youll Do

• Explore real-world challenges in vaccine clinical trial design.

• Develop a simulation package using exact method, with features handling scenarios including different regional and seasonal patterns in incidence rates, interim analyses with sample size re-estimation, and type I error control where closed-form solution is not available.

• Collaborate with statisticians and other stakeholders to ensure meeting project timelines and goals.

• Bring innovative statistical thinking to apply state-of-art statistical methods that increase the probability of successes for clinical development programs.

Heres What Youll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

• Current student enrolled in a PhD program in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related field.

• Research experience and publication in complex clinical trial design.

• Programming skills in simulation package development.

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

• GPA of 3.5 on a 4 scale or equivalent

• Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as the ability to contribute to high performing teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
