Position Description
Job Title: Learning Support Teacher
FLSA: Exempt
Job Status: Full-Time; 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Reporting Functions: Reports to the school Principal.
Job Function: The Learning Support Teacher will be responsible for providing specialized educational support in reading, writing, math, and all other subjects to students, both in the classroom and in small group settings. This position will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and administrators to implement education plans that meet the individual needs of each student.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and 504 plans for students and monitor their progress throughout the school year. Participate in IEP meetings and other required meetings.
- Teach students per their individualized reading plans to small groups or individually using research-based strategies and resources. Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge to provide an effective reading, writing, and mathematical foundation in accordance with their abilities.
- Offer support and strategies to enhance instruction and promote growth throughout the curriculum. Collaborate with teachers of all grade levels to promote the learning and implementation of instruction.
- Meet regularly with classroom teachers to plan education instructions that relate to the student's individual needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.
- Evaluate student performances during each session and provide feedback. Maintain a fair, accurate, and timely assessment of policies and procedures.
- Communicate with students, parents, and teachers on a regular basis about schedules, assessments, and individual student needs. Meet with parents during parent-teacher conferences throughout the school year.
- Maintain and engage in professional growth, adhere to professional standards, and demonstrate professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
- Regularly check email and update web pages as required through the technology system provided by the school.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters including social media and online platforms. Follow all Allentown Diocese policies as per the teacher's handbook.
- Actively establish and maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe, orderly, effective, and productive environment. Upholds La Salle Academy's discipline procedures.
- Supervise and manage students' behavior in the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, before and after school, etc., to foster a positive and healthy learning environment for all.
- Attend all required in-service training meetings and workshops. Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
- Actively be involved in the school community. Attend school events, activities, fundraisers, etc.
- Any other duties assigned by the Principal.

Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or equivalent required. Master's degree preferred.
- Reading Specialist PK-12 Certification is a plus, not required.
- Experience with MTSS and SWPBIS is preferred, not required.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
Other Qualifications:
- Demonstrate ability to plan, organize, and modify an educational activity set by the classroom teacher.
- Must communicate effectively with parents, students, and co-workers in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
- Possess an understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to the students being taught.
- Ability to handle classroom situations with fairness and patience.
- Able to maintain a high level of energy. Ability to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a high degree of credibility, integrity, and self-confidence is essential.
PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old) as well as attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and stoop. Must be able to talk and hear, both in person and by telephone. Use of hands to perform standard classroom duties and use office equipment is required. Reaching and lifting up to 10 pounds is also required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Working Conditions: Educational setting, 2024-2025 Contracted position (LTS); 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal school day to attend school-related events.
