Overview
1st shift - Large Diameter Tubing End Finish
- Monday-Thursday 6am-4:30pm (overtime is on Fridays - we typically work quite a few Fridays in the year)
- Size from 3inches to 6inches, with some 7-8 inch diameter tubes
- Use a variety of machines and tools and trim, deburr, and finish the end of metal tubes. These tubes go into everything from the tractor combines you see in fields to hospital generators making sure the lights stay on!
- After 60-90 days there is a review process for employees
- Partnered with another employee in a cell for training and after be rotated in cells with a team member as needed and as staff allows
Typical Day as a production operator in the north plant is ensuring that tubes are rounded using a bandsaw to trim off the ends, bar press to press into to a more circular shape, checking with a caliper, then can go through one of several machines to either apply a bead or lip around one fo the edges or flare out one of the ends. All depends on what specfic use the customer has for the tubes and what they want us to do! There is never a dull moment as our runs are typically shorter, and you'll typically be doing several differnet parts each day!
Our growing company is seeking to hire a Production Operator. As an employee at MEC, you will set-up, adjust and operate several production machine tools where tooling, setup detail and operating procedures are standardized and obvious- or operate and maintain setups on special purpose machines where operations may involve several progressive machining sequences.
A role like this comes with some important responsibilities, some of those responsibilities include:
- Selects and aligns dies in press according to specifications.
- Positions work piece against fixtures or stops on machine bed or on die.
- Starts press and observes operation to detect misalignment or malfunction.
- Regulates air pressure and oil pressure.
- Inspects work pieces for conformance to specifications and adjusts machine to correct errors.
- Generally close tolerance work where dimensional and finish requirements are not difficult to maintain due to nature of tooling and machine setups.
- Work usually repetitive and subject to process inspection.
- May be required to read part drawings and use adjustable, direct reading and fixed gauges to check work.
- Packages parts in appropriate containers.
- Cleans and lubricates machines.
- Additional duties may be assigned.

What Does It Take to Be a Fit for This Role?
- One-three months of related experience is preferred.
- Manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated detail orientation, self-motivation skills and ability to multi-task.
- Requires a fundamental knowledge of machine shop operations as acquired by short job training and experience.
- Ability to understand and follow at MEC safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to left up to 50 lbs. at a time. This position involves a lot of bending, twisting and lifting.
